K-Lo's "True Story" Hits Shelves...

This season, “American Idol” has given us a pretty good final four in Melinda, Jordin, Blake and LaKisha…

But season two also produced a pretty fearsome foursome with Ruben Studdard, Clay Aiken, Kimberley Locke and Josh Gracin.

One of those four, Kimberley Locke, released her second CD this week, “Based On a True Story.”

And K-Lo wastes no time getting right to it with the CD’s opening ballad, “Change.” It’s one of those sweeping songs you’d expect to hear over a montage in a movie when the heroine decides to pick herself up and get on with her life. And it’s a great showcase for Kimberley’s voice…

Unfortunately, the rest of the CD doesn’t live up to that promise.

That’s not to say that it’s bad, because it isn’t. It’s just that by about track five, all of the songs start sounding the same. And worse, some of the R&B comes off as a little cheesy. Plus, none of the tracks comes close to matching the poppy goodness of “8th World Wonder,” Kimberley’s first single.

As a bonus, Kimberley includes a cover of “Band of Gold,” which was one of her “Idol” standards. But on this CD, it just doesn’t fit and comes off as a little strange.

If you’re a K-Lo fan, you’ll like “Story.” But if you prefer your CDs to have a little more flavor, you’ll probably want to skip it.

You can hear it for yourself through Sunday at http://music.aol.com/songs/new_releases_full_cds...
