My Kansas City Wrap-Up

Last night we got the kinder, gentler “Idol."

Did that continue tonight? Well, yes and no…

The show continued focusing on the heartwarming stories more than the trainwrecks. But Simon’s acid-tongued barbs were back with a vengeance—much to Kara’s chagrin.

However, I thought the show once again struck a nice balance between the painful and the pleasant.

And there was plenty of pleasant as we heard some REALLY good talent tonight.

My favorite was Danny (“I Heard It Through the Grapevine”), thanks to his heartwrenching story, followed very closely by Matt (“Ain’t No Sunshine”). I also really liked Jamar (“California Dreamin’”) and Jessica (“Crybaby”).

And I’m actually starting to think that because of the way the show is working so far that we might actually be seeing people that are going to make it somewhere in the competition as opposed to having the show randomly show us good performances from people that we never get to see again.

And wouldn’t that be awesome?

I told you guys this was going to be a good season, and so far nothing has happened to prove me wrong…

I’ll wait a little longer to decide for sure, but I’m honestly starting to think that maybe Nigel (Lythgoe, the former executive producer) was the problem. I point you to the trainwreck known as “Superstars of Dance” for further evidence…

So what did you think of tonight’s show? The season so far? The show’s increased use of music and montages?

Ryan’s flannel shirt?
