Time to Give “Break Anotha” a Break

According to his official website, Blake Lewis is scheduled to perform on “The Tonight Show” tonight…

Since he just did it on FOX’s New Year’s Eve special, I’m sure he’ll perform “Break Anotha” tonight. But I really wish he wouldn’t…

The good thing about “Break” is that it’s not like anything else on the radio right now. The bad thing about “Break” is that it’s not like anything else on the radio right now so program directors aren’t coming anywhere near it. No radio play means no album sales and that is definitely bad news—especially when the album is so good.

You know that I like “Break,” but I think it may be too in your face for some people’s taste. And Blake’s headbanging live performances of it haven’t helped any. Any other song on the CD—with the exception of “She’s Makin’ Me Lose It”—would make a great single. I’m all for allowing singles to grow, but if Blake is going to have any kind of success, Arista/19 needs to drop “Break” and go with another song more suited for radio. I highly recommend either “How Many Words” or the sensational “I Got U.”

After MANY repeated listenings, I am more convinced than ever that his CD is one of the best ever released by an Idol. I just hope his label gives him the chance to live up to the star potential he’s showing…

“The Tonight Show” airs tonight at 11:35 p.m. on NBC. Remember that with the strike, bookings may change at the last minute…
