Are the Contestants Getting a Mentor?
The “Los Angeles Times” reported yesterday afternoon that legendary music producer Jimmy Iovine will play a “significant role” on “Idol” this season.
What that means is unclear, but the report speculated Iovine would be some sort of mentor to the contestants. Iovine is the chairman of UMG's Interscope Geffen A&M label, the new recording home for the Idols.
I’m thinking that maybe the show is taking steps to end the constant song choice criticism by allowing the respected professional that will be working with the winner to help them along the way. He may also help fill the void left by the departed music director Rickey Minor.
