A Smaller Contestant Controversy

I’m calling this one smaller because it doesn’t involve any drugs or sugar in a gas tank…

Remember Kia Thornton, who auditioned in New York with “Ain’t No Way”? Well, there was a reason she was good. Kim was a member of the R&B trio Divine who hit #11 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1998 with “Lately.” They had another song, a cover of the George Michael hit, “One More Try” that went to #29. Divine toured with *N Sync and Britney Spears.

Now before you start crying foul, you should know that Kia was eliminated in Hollywood. But if she wasn’t, would this have disqualified her? Is that why she was eliminated? I don’t know. I have to agree, though, that it would not have been fair if she had advanced to the top 24…
