Group Day—The Day After

I have to say I’m a little surprised at how negatively people have responded to last night’s episode…

Even the great Michael Slezak of EW.com wrote that last night’s episode might signal the end of “Idol” as a cultural phenomenon.

What?!

Yes, it’s true that we didn’t get to see a lot of singing, but it’s Group Day. It’s not about the singing. It’s about the drama…

And I love it. Ever since season two when Corey Clark went partying instead of rehearsing with his group, I’ve loved it.

Now granted, we really only got to see drama with two of the groups. And those groups featured two of the more annoying contestants (Tatiana and Katrina), which made it a little harder to watch.

And yes, I would’ve liked to have seen David Osmond’s performance that got him eliminated. But what makes Group Day special is the catfights and the forgotten lyrics—not the singing.

Or at least that’s what makes it special to me.

Maybe I’m just too much of a drama queen…

What did you guys think? Do you think last night’s episode was a sign of bad things to come or did you enjoy it?...
