Tonight's Show

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, you heard Ryan correctly last night. Katharine McPhee is finally getting her return to the Idol stage…

Ryan said she will appear with David Foster, who according to Internet stories, is producing Kat’s new album. You may remember that Foster was impressed with Kat when he appeared as a guest judge along with Andrea Bocelli and he produced Kat’s single, “Over the Rainbow.”

It seems like a strange time for Kat to appear since she’s got nothing to plug, but I think the show owes it to her since they ignored her when she did have a CD to promote. But I can’t help but think she wouldn’t have gotten this without the Writers’ Strike…

Unless David Foster is going to be one of the mentors and they’re using this as an opportunity to introduce that. Ryan did say we’d learn their identities tonight.

And, if Kat’s performance isn’t enough, Jim Carrey is scheduled to appear on the show dressed as an elephant to promote “Horton Hears a Who!” As if that movie needs any more promotion…

By the way, I took another listen to Chikezie’s performance from last night, and I have to admit now that it was good. His voice was spot on. David Cook’s performance was not nearly as good as I thought. He slurred a lot of words and that beginning was pretty rough. In his defense, the Panic! At the Disco version also starts out rough…

I’ll be back in a bit with my famous minute-by-minute recap.

Hey! It’s famous to me…
