Another Deal Bites the Dust

Add Katherine McPhee to the list of Idols no longer with the Sony BMG family.

An RCA rep told “Entertainment Weekly” that Kat “is going to record her next album on her own.”

“Katharine McPhee” has sold 366,000 copies, according to “Billboard.”

However, Kat may not have that much to worry about. “EW” reports that she is already in talks with another label. And she’ll make her film debut later this year in the Adam Sandler-produced “I Know What Boys Like” starring Anna Faris.

An RCA Music Group (which is part of Sony BMG) rep told “EW,” “After six seasons, we are proud of the eight artists on the roster who started their careers on the show. With respect to Taylor, we have an understanding that he will come back to us to play music once he’s finished writing his new material.”

Huh?

By the way, those eight artists are: Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aiken, Fantasia, Carrie Underwood, Daughtry, Kellie Pickler, Jordin Sparks, and Blake Lewis.

In an interview about the upcoming season, Simon Cowell said about all the lost deals, “It’s a reflection on the unpredictability of the record business. Fortunately, we got it right more than we got it wrong…There’s no scientific way to explain what happens. It’s a reality show and what happens at the end is also reality.”

About Jordin and Blake’s low sales, he said, “Am I surprised? Not particularly…The public decided it’s not necessarily what they wanted, so we have to try to do better this year”…
