John Rzeznik to "Band" Contestant: "Stop being such a prima donna"

FINALLY, I have something interesting to say about “The Next Great American Band,” and it didn’t even happen on the show.

In his new blog for TVGuide.com, judge John Rzeznik takes on the audience and one of the contestants and his comments are pretty blunt…

He writes, “I don’t mind if people boo me but don’t boo me until you listen to what I have to say. I was being nice to Lauren [the lead singer of Rocket] last week but she’s obviously too fragile and spoiled for the music business, you know? She should stop being such a prima donna. It wasn’t like I was beating on her for the sake of beating on her. All I said is, ‘You really have to learn how to sing better.’”

John continues, “It’s weird because I’m getting paid to give my opinion, but if I don’t gush, people get so upset. We live in a generation where everyone gets a trophy just for participating. Someone’s going to win and someone’s going to lose. That’s just life!”

This guy is quickly becoming my hero…

If you’re getting pumped about Lauren’s possible rebuttal tonight, don’t. The show was taped Thursday night—before John wrote his blog. In fact, I’m wondering if the fact that John mentioned her at all means Rocket is out of the competition. Or maybe they’re still in it and he’s trying to stir up some controversy to generate buzz…

About this week’s show, John wrote that it turned out to be “pretty interesting” how the bands interpreted their Billy Joel songs…

“The Next Great American Band” airs tonight (Friday) at 8 on FOX…
