The "Ride" Kicks Into High Gear for Carrie

In an interview with “USA Today,” Carrie talked about the songwriting retreat for her new album, “Carnival Ride,” which hits stores Tuesday…

For three days in February, she and a dozen Nashville song writers holed up in the Ryman Auditorium, the former home of the Grand Ole Opry. Each morning the songwriters broke into groups of two or three to write in the dressing rooms. Carrie would team up with partners, but would also go from room to room to check on the writers’ progress and offer suggestions. In the evenings, the writers would record demos of that day’s songs on the stage with Carrie’s producer, Mark Bright.

A similar retreat for “Some Hearts” produced three songs that made the CD, but this one only produced one, “Twisted.” But Carrie said the retreat did serve its larger purpose of getting her better acquainted with the writers, who account for 11 of the 13 songs on the CD. Carrie also co-wrote several of the tracks, including the first single, “So Small”…
