A little preview...

Tonight is the most wide-open top three elimination show in “Idol” history.

Think about it. Every other year we’ve known who was going to be in the finale by this point…

In season one, we knew that Nikki McKibbin couldn’t possibly beat out Kelly Clarkson or Justin Guarini. Season two’s Kimberley Locke was outstanding, but she was no match for the popularity of Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken. In Season three, no one was surprised to see Jasmine Trias go (The surprise was that she lasted as long as she did.). Season four created a little suspense as Elliott Yamin gave some great final performances, but it was too little too late to outlast Katharine McPhee or Taylor Hicks.

But this season, I honestly have no idea…

The majority of experts say it’s Blake that will go home tonight, but there is a minority that thinks it’s Jordin who will go. I was not alone in my assessment that she had a weak show and several others agree that she took the cop-out route by singing a song she had already done. And there’s one other thing. Yahoo TV reports that the Idol who sings first during this week always goes home. I’ll just have to take their word for that…

I still stand by my statement that last night was not enough to send Jordin home. The real contest is between Blake and Melinda. And I have no idea how it will go. But I have a sneaking suspicion that it is Blake we will say goodbye to…

By the way, tonight’s stall tactic—I mean, musical guest—is Maroon 5. I haven’t heard that they taped a performance, so I presume they’re actually going to perform live. If they’re singing “Makes Me Wonder” I have to wonder how they’re going to cover up the cursing. Maybe they’ll wonder if they ever gave a flip…

It all starts in 15 minutes. I’ll be back when we get down to the nitty-gritty…
